What a week!

The greatest thing about the snow is that it gave us a four day weekend! My cousin Ember & her husband Josh were in town and stayed with us for a few days. He is in the process of becoming a police officer and they were in town for the last round of tests!! I got a little ambitious and decided to attempt a chocolate soufflĂ©. Ember is an excellent baker so with her there I wasn’t as nervous.

It’s one of those things that timing is very important. LOTS of steps. I started it too early and when in it was ready to go in the oven, our dinner wasn’t finished cooking. (yes, that is a Stouffers family meal, didn’t say I was ambitious with dinner :)…) So we had to improvise. I was so worried that it would taste like chicken parmesan..

101_0297

But it didn’t… :) I made it in a dish that was a little bit bigger than the recipe called for, I was also really worried that it wouldn’t rise…

TADA!!!! It was really good. Even Kevin liked it and he is not a big sweets guy. YUMM!

Because of the11,000 inches of snow, our power kept flickering so Kevin took my book light and attached it to Murphy’s collar. That way he could lead us… like Rudolph…

On Monday I was so excited to have a day at home with nothing to do that I started experimenting with s’mores. I ended up making these really fancy ones using graham cracker crumbs, butter, chocolate and marshmallows… I made a crust with the crumbs using a muffin pan & toasted them in the broiler.

Thursday was a VERY long day for me. Normal school day + speech club, faculty vs. student basktball game, 6th grade parent night.. THEN I headed over to AHS for the MR.COLT contest… guess who was a contestant….

101_0321

He didn’t win. He really didn’t want to because it meant that he has to go back to next year. haha But he looked so nice in his tux. For the question & answer section he was asked, “What is your favorite memory from high school?” and he said, “That’s easy, meeting my beautiful wife Alyssa who is in the audience tonight.” :) He’s so sweet! We didn’t get home until 11pm… but it was a really funny show.

Friday night we went out to dinner with our friends Brian and Sarah. Brian and Kevin coach together at AHS and his wife Sarah is a teacher as well so we all have a lot in common. We went to Macaroni Grill and the boys made use of the crayons and paper…

They went to a football seminar earlier in the day and spent most of dinner rehashing what they had learned. Sarah and I had fun making faces at them as they were so intense. It was really fun. We didn’t leave the restaurant until 10pm. Can’t wait to do it again some time. :)

Ringless

I went out to Saginaw today to get my rings resized. Seems I have lost an entire ring size on my hand and my Mom is very impressed that my rings haven’t slipped off my finger when I wasn’t paying attention. We buy our jewelry from Collections Fine Jewelry in Saginaw. If you have never been there, you should check it out. They do everything at cost+10%. Custom jewelry as well as designer jewelry.

They estimated my rings will be ready in a week. They are going to check all the stones as well. I didn’t think I could go a whole week without a ring on my finger.

It may sound silly, but it felt so weird to have that finger “ringless”.  I have had a ring on my ring finger since 1998. Kevin gave me a promise ring when we were 16 years old:

After Kevin proposed, we had Collections turn the ring into a necklace. We used some of the diamonds that my mother gave us for my wedding band. It was my something blue at our wedding:

I love my wedding set. The center stone belonged to my great grandmother. It has been in my family since the 1920s. Kevin bought the engagement ring at Collections and had my Ganny’s stone set in it. Then we had the wedding band made to match with stones from my Mama. The set is priceless to me:

Like I said, I felt weird having a naked finger… So, I went to highlands and got this ring to serve as a replacement ring for the time being. Kevin and I went out to dinner for Valentine’s Day tonight. We went to Mac’s and it was so good! I’m glad I had the replacement ring to wear:

It’s very pretty, but it was really cheap. I have my fingers crossed that they don’t turn green.

Can’t wait to get my set back. I didn’t realize I was this OCD!

This morning…

Kevin and I played in the snow like little kids this morning. Totally taking advantage of our day off from work! Love my career. It’s an amazing thing to mold the minds of young ones and just as awesome to get the days off that we do. :)

SNOW 2010

This is insane! I feel like I am on vacation in Colorado and I am sitting in my bed in my own home! I am loving the view. Driving in it, not so much. My car got stuck in the driveway. It took Kevin an hour to shovel the snow and get his car in. Mine, he informs me is front wheel drive and he saved the day with his uuber awesome driving skills. He spun my tires and the car slid to the right, then to the left…. and then ever so nicely into the garage. I was all ready to call state farm because my husband was going to wreck the car into the house! :) I gotta have more faith!

Anyway, here are some pictures and video of  the snow!

When I woke up on Wednesday morning….

On my way to school wed. morning, I thought these trees looked so pretty. Every one was driving about 10 miles an hour so I was able to take a picture:

ALL day long, all the kids wanted to do was go outside and play in the snow. Every period, can we go outside? Please? Coach????? We were instructed to keep the kiddos inside. But the second school was over, they all ran outside and started throwing snow balls! SO FUN!

My dog has long legs and the snow is almost up to his belly, in TEXAS! Most snow fall in a single day in the history of DFW!
